Just check out the list of projects he’s involved in: Apart from anchoring the Mandarin news on 8TV and hosting various television programmes, Yap is also a columnist for several magazines, including Feminin, Citta Bella, and Men’s Uno, as well as Chinese language dailies Sin Chew Jit Poh, China Press, Nanyang Siang Pau, and Oriental Press.

He is also looking forward to a weekly column on books in Sin Chew – he’s aiming for a print version of Oprah Winfrey’s book club.

Yes, amidst all the other things he does, Yap finds time to read voraciously, alternating between English and Chinese books on varied subjects; you’re just as likely to find him with The Kite-Runner one day and The 80/20 Rule of Time Management the next.

And he does all of this while holding down a day job as a lecturer at the Open University, which, of course, means he has his hands full marking and moderating examination papers.

The multi-lingual Yap also spent 10 days in Seoul last month filming a Korean tourism documentary called Hi Seoul (it airs tonight at 7pm on 8TV).

Yap speaks English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, as well as Korean, as he spent a year and a half studying in South Korea in 2005.

He was the first Malaysian to enrol at Yonsei University, one of Seoul’s top three universities, and reportedly impressed his Korean professors.

He’s also one of the Malaysian celebrities designated as a “Famine Angel” at the 30-hour Famine Fund event organised by World Vision that will be held in August.
